How to Activate Your OTC Benefit Card

Activating Your Card

Most OTC benefit cards are automatically activated when your plan coverage begins. However, some plans require manual activation.

Step-by-Step Activation

  1. Find your card: It usually arrives in your plan welcome kit or in a separate mailing
  2. Call the activation number: Found on the sticker on your card or in the welcome letter
  3. Verify your identity: You'll need your Medicare ID number and date of birth
  4. Set a PIN (if required): Some cards require a 4-digit PIN for purchases
  5. Confirm your balance: Ask the representative to confirm your quarterly allowance

Lost your card?

Call the member services number on the back of your Medicare Advantage ID card. They can issue a replacement OTC card, usually within 7-10 business days. In the meantime, you may be able to order online through your plan's member portal.

Card not working at checkout?

Common reasons: the item isn't OTC-eligible, you've exceeded your quarterly balance, or the retailer's system isn't processing correctly. Ask the cashier to try running it as a "health benefit" card, or try a different register.
